Split – if it’s good enough for the emperor…

…it’s good enough for me!

What does this mean – if it’s good enough for the emperor? Here’s a little piece of history for you. Diocletian was a Roman emperor who wanted to build himself a nice place to live. So he build a palace. And of course, he built it in one of the most beautiful cities in Adriatic, Split. Because Diocletian was no fool.

Today the palace, along with adjoining areas to the west, forms the very heart of Split. Many shops, restaurants, bars and apartments for tourists can be found within the palace. The curious thing is that there are still people living inside the palace. Maybe they are not emperors, but still, they live good.

Another fun trivia: Diocletian’s Palace was used as a location for filming the fourth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones.
Split today is not just Diocletian’s Palace, it’s much more than that. But the nucleus of the town is definitely the Palace.

If you want to go for a swim while in Split, visit these beaches: Bačvice, Žnjan, Ovčice, Kašuni, Kaštelet.

And an extra tip: when in Palace, search for the statue of Grgur Ninski, touch his toe thumb and make a wish. It will come true 😉

p.s. This is just the first post about Split, more to come 😉
